What area of the business do you work for? What is your role?
I am currently a part of the Technical Services Consulting group based in Canberra. The consulting group takes on work in all areas (storage, data, networking, support etc.) and delivers the projects from end-to-end. As a graduate I am getting to work with the different roles within the group including project management, solution architect and presales which includes tasks such as scheduling, reporting, proposals, high level and detailed designs, and implementation of solutions.
What’s the best part of your job?
One of the best parts of my job are the people I get to work with. There is an amazing group of people working within Technology Services in Canberra who are not only very knowledgeable, but also eager to share their experiences with the graduates and take the extra time to teach us and answer our questions. After less than three months with them I already feel like a part of the team and feel that my views will be respected and listened to.
What kind of skills have you developed since joining HPE?
Although I came from a technical background of engineering, I did not have much experience with IT before starting this role. HPE have provided extensive training databases which have allowed me to gain the required knowledge of different technologies and processes as needed at my own pace. Getting to interact with clients on a regular basis I have also developed my soft skills which are invaluable within the consulting world.
What does it take to thrive in a graduate position at HPE?
For me personally I have found that the biggest attributes that have been valuable at the start of my career are being open and honest about what I know and pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. No one will come into a graduate position already knowing everything, and no one in the company will expect that of you. The fastest way to learn is to acknowledge what you don’t know and use the resources around you to gain that knowledge.
