I am staying on at the business with a strong development plan to progress quickly throughout the organisation
Unfortunately for many IBLs, there is no availability to stay on after the program. For IBLs who need to return to uni, it would have been nice if there was an opportunity to remain part time (whether in the office or in the field)
Intern, Melbourne (Abbotsford)
They promote diversity and the ability to try various different areas of expertise. Many people internally have worked in remarkably different disciplines in relatively short periods. At the higher end there is a bottleneck locally and we often see mid to high level talent forced to leave, or look international.
I cannot comment too much as an intern. But it you obviously have to show that you are good at what you do and that you have the desire to move up in the company. With this in place you should not have too much trouble as the company prefers to hire from within if they are looking for someone to fill a position.
Flat org structure makes it difficult to move up in positions as there is a big jump from IBL to SGM in my team
Promotion possibilities depend on department openings. You have to show initiative and drive in order to move up the ranks.
When there is a vacancy it is quite easy to progress if you have demonstrated a strong work ethic
It really does depend on the job openings and then how good you are at your job. If you work hard enough and develop yourself well enough and opportunities open up, there is a good chance you will succeed in moving up.
Some departments have clear lines of career progression, in others it is more difficult to move from one role to another because of the large step.
There are many opportunities to be promoted based on your Performance Development Plan (Employer Appraisal) - every year there is a talent review, which may open opportunities for employees to interview for another position. On weekly newsletters there are also job opportunities advertised. To move up the ranks, you need to do your job well, be recognised for it, and ensure that you are well connected and liked within the work place.
