How long have you been working with BYCA and what is it about the company that makes you excited?
I’ve been working with BYCA on the Griffith Solar Farm Project since March 2017. They are first company I’ve worked with since completing my studies. I previously completed a three month internship with Bouygues Energy and Services in France and then went through Bouygues Construction’s international graduate program.
I am really enjoying being part of BYCA and working in the renewable energy space on solar farms. The opportunity to work with Bouygues Construction - an international tier one company, and one of the biggest infrastructure companies in the world, will provide me with so much experience and hopefully the opportunity to work on many more projects in Australian and across the world.
What is your current role and what do you do?
As a Junior Logistics and Site Engineer, my day can include monitoring and checking site deliveries to make sure the correct materials are received and set down. You might also find me preparing itineraries for drivers or working on method statements for the communication of company policies and government legislation and the way it all impacts the project.
The working day starts at 7am and ends around 6pm but there’s definitely time to manage a healthy work/social life balance. My team come from different construction backgrounds and locations around the world and I’m learning a lot from their extensive and vast experience. They’ve all got a really good work ethic and there is a strong social bond outside of work. It’s great working with them in a relatively small town like Griffith where the local community is very welcoming.
Why did you want to join the construction industry?
I liked the idea of varied work environments - working indoor and outdoor and moving around new sites and projects. It’s exciting to know that every project environment will be different- even if it is the same work each project comes with new people, new towns and new experiences.
What are you future aspirations and where would you like your career to take you?
I aspire to have the opportunity to work in different sectors in the construction industry, and in different roles such as Site Supervisor, Construction Manager and Project Director. My goal is to expand my knowledge in project direction and construction management. I’m looking forward to my journey and how I’ll achieve it all!
What are the three pieces of advice you would give yourself if you were starting your studies again?
